Uraminotaki

Nikko is famous for its many waterfalls, and Urami Fall is one of the “Three Great Waterfalls of Nikko”.
The waterfall is not so large, dropping about 20m, but you can see the many streams of water flowing from the observation deck right next to it.

The name ‘Urami’ comes from the fact that the waterfall used to be seen from the back side, but the upper rocks collapsed in a major storm in September 1902, and the path to the back of the waterfall is now blocked.

During the Edo period, Acala (Fudo Myoo) was enshrined behind the waterfall, and the fall was a training ground for religious climbers. That statue can still be seen from the deck.
Twice a year monks from the temple in the city hold memorial services there.

This is an old postcard from my collection.
As in the case of Kanmangafuchi, a teahouse can be seen. At that time, there was a teahouse in places with a good view.

It takes about 45 minutes to walk from the bus stop.
If you have a taxi or a car, it’s about a 10-minute walk from the free parking lot.

Nearest bus stop : No.15 Uraminotaki Iriguchi
Area : Central Nikko
